Don't know much about LED lighting? Today, LED lighting becomes the most popular device as the incandescent lamps are being phased out globally. There are several benefits of LEDs: long lifetime, good temporal stability, robustness, and energy efficiency. These features make LED lighting peak among the other. Let's dive into more to understand what commercial LED lighting is and how it works. What is LED Lighting? When an electrical current passes through it, LED emits visible lights. It is the opposite of photovoltaic cells that convert visible light into electrical current. How do LED lighting works? It's effortless to produce, that's why there was so much exhilaration when LED lights were first invented. Technically: LED light is made of two types of material: p-type and n-type, also known as "extringent materials". Both the p-type and n-type materials have dipped into a "doping agent" to alter their electrical properties from pure and form i-type slightly. Both p-type and n-type materials are composed of original materials to atoms of another element. These atoms replace past existing atoms and alter the physical and chemical structure too. Boron has minimal valance electrons that the intrinsic material (silicon) is used to create the p-type material. Phosphorus is the element that has more valence electrons are used to develop n-type material that is intrinsic materials. Hence it creates p-n junction, which is useful for electronic applications. These properties often depend on external voltage applied to the circuit and the direction of the current i.e., p-type or n-type. Applications of LED lighting There are various applications of the LED, and some are mentioned below-
